1. A morning or afternoon in Eccleshall
There is plenty to do in Eccleshall so make sure you have a wander up and down the High Street and buy a gift/souvenir of your stay. There are lots of independently owned/boutique shops and many choices for refreshments from the local Artisan coffee shop to one of many of our local pubs. All of which serve good food. There is a library for more tourist information, a local art gallery at no. 12 and a coop for supplies.
2. Walking in the local area
The local area has so many opportunities for lovely walks. You could set off from the local area – check out the leaflets with several suggested walks or make up your own with the OS map in the bookcase! If you prefer to walk in Country/National Parks we have a wide range of options from Cannock Chase Country Park and The Shugborough estate just outside Stafford, to the beautiful Downs Banks in Barlaston (Site of Special Scientific Interest). If you don’t mind going further afield, we have the fantastic Peak District and The Shropshire Hills approx. 45 mins to 1 hour away.
3. Day at Trentham Estate
Trentham estate is a major visitor attraction in the local area catering for everyone through the wide selection of activities on offer. The garden centre is huge and full of gifts and ideas for the home/garden. There are many restaurants and café’s to eat at. The Italian gardens are beautiful and a fantastic experience with walks round the lake and a boat trip on Miss Elizabeth. As if that was not enough, there is a shopping village and Monkey forest…brilliant!
4. Shopping in Stone or Stafford Towns
Stone is a small canal town renowned for its food! On the first Saturday of every month there is a large farmer’s market on offer. Stafford is also close by. There is a large car boot sale every Sunday on the common and the town centre is a full range of shops. There are also several retail parks around Stafford if you prefer.
5. Weston Park
Weston park is an opulent C17th mansion full of fine art. The landscapes are beautifully designed and well worth a walk around and the bonus of the restaurant, café and gallery make this an excellent destination local to us in Stafford.
6. The Potteries Heritage Visits
Stoke-on-Trent, the home to The Potteries, is on our doorstep. Famous for making pottery which is sold worldwide, there are still working factories located within the city. Emma Bridgewater factory in Hanley has shops and a lovely café as well as painting your own products facilities for a memento. Wedgewood in Barlaston or Port Merion in Stoke have similar set ups if you prefer more traditional ware.
7. Visit a local garden centre…
There are many garden centres around here so take your pick – all have café facilities and added extras. Fletcher’s just on the outskirts of Eccleshall is a wildlife centre and Bridgmere have additional shopping/markets and even crazy golf on offer.
8. Sugnall Walled Garden and tea room
Sugnall Walled Garden is a lovely destination for a summer’s walk as the garden will be in bloom. On the second Sunday of every month, there is a local craft and foodie market on offer and the café there serves light snacks.
9. Staffordshire Wildlife Trust Visits
Both Loynton Moss and Wolsely Bridge are close by and offer open walks and views of beautiful protected countryside where the bird life is abundant. Enjoy!
10. Alton Towers
How much more fun can you have than a day out at a Theme park. Alton Towers is within a 45 minute drive and a brilliant experience for the adventurous. If you prefer more of a relax, the water park and spa are also outstanding experiences for people of any age. Other spas in the area include Moddershall Oaks – this is a beautiful and exclusive spa facility and the restaurant is that extra special something.
